Terms of Service
The service
Kimem Meter Taxi (KIMEM METER TAXI PLC) connects riders in Bahir Dar with licensed meter taxi drivers. Drivers are independent operators, not Kimem employees, and Kimem does not own or operate their vehicles. Drivers are responsible for insuring their own vehicle as required by Ethiopian law. Google and Apple distribute the app through their stores but are not party to these terms and have no responsibility for the service. By using the app you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
Accounts
- You must be 18 or older. A person under 18 may ride only together with the adult account holder, who is responsible for them.
- Use your own phone number and give accurate information.
- Do not hand your account to anyone else.
- We may suspend or close an account for fraud, abuse, or breaking these terms.
- You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time. See account deletion for how.
Rides and fares
A fare estimate is shown before the ride. The final fare is calculated from the actual distance and time under the published tariff, with approved discounts applied. The final fare can therefore differ from the estimate.
Payment
Payment is cash only, paid to the driver at the end of the ride. The app records the amount paid. There are no card or mobile money payments. The data and SMS charges your mobile operator bills for using the app are yours.
Cancellations
Either the rider or the driver can cancel a ride. Repeated or abusive cancellation can lead to account suspension.
Lost items
If you leave something in the vehicle, contact us within 24 hours. We will try to help you reach the driver, but we cannot guarantee the item is found or returned.
Conduct
- Use the service lawfully and without harming others.
- Drivers must follow traffic law and licensing requirements.
- Do not smoke, drink alcohol, or distract the driver inside the vehicle.
- Do not copy, reverse-engineer, or scrape the app.
- Do not impersonate another person or misuse another rider's or driver's information.
- Do not interfere with the app or the network it runs on.
- Rate rides honestly. We may remove a rating that is false or abusive.
Emergencies
The emergency button in the app reaches our operators. Using it without a real emergency is prohibited.
Liability
The service depends on network coverage and driver availability and is provided as is. We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events outside our reasonable control, including network or power outages, government action, or civil unrest. Beyond what the law requires, we are not liable for indirect losses, and our total liability for any claim is capped at 1,000 ETB. Nothing in these terms limits liability that Ethiopian law does not allow to be limited. If you break these terms or the law, you are responsible for any loss or cost this causes us.
Ownership
The app, its design, and its content belong to Kimem Meter Taxi. You may not copy or reuse them outside the app.
Changes
When these terms change, we post the new version on this page. Continuing to use the service means you accept the change. We may also change, suspend, or discontinue parts of the app or the service at any time. We may contact you by SMS, push notification, in-app message, or email, using the details on your account. If Kimem Meter Taxi is acquired, merged, or reorganized, these terms continue to apply and may transfer to the new owner.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Ethiopian law, and disputes go to Ethiopian courts. Talk to us first at kimemtaxi@gmail.com; we resolve most problems directly.
Report a problem within 7 days of the ride so we can look into it. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the service. If any part of these terms is found invalid, the rest still applies.
